This year’s tournament will be held on Memorial Day weekend. The festivities kick-off on Friday, May 22 with a welcome party at one of our bar sponsors. Round-robin games will start Saturday morning (don’t worry, not too early) and continue until mid-day on Sunday. Playoffs will be held Sunday afternoon and finals will be held Monday morning (once again, not too early). We will have another party Saturday evening and the tournament banquet will be held on Sunday evening.

Not playing in the finals? Then come cheer on the teams and join us for a champagne brunch at Chelsea Piers! In addition, Fleet Week is returning to New York City this year and will coincide with our tournament. Come and enjoy the festivities!

The DEVELOPMENTAL DIVISION is for players at the beginner to intermediate level. This division’s format is “drop-in,” meaning that players are assigned to teams by skill level. The Chelsea Challenge Committee will create even-strength teams from the pool of registered players. City teams should not enter this division if they expect to play together as a group.

The RECREATIONAL DIVISION is for players at the intermediate to competitive level. This division uses the team format, meaning that players register as part of a particular team. Those players who do not choose a team during registration, so-called “free agents”, will be assigned to a team based on the number of registered players and the balance of skill levels within the division. The Recreational Division may be divided into two levels (A and B) depending on the number of teams that register.

It is a goal of the NYCGHA to allow as many players as possible to play in the Chelsea Challenge. A team registration is considered full when 15 skaters and one goaltender have registered. Teams which do not have a full registration may be assigned players at the discretion of the Chelsea Challenge Organizing Committee and are also subject to consolidation if fewer than ten players are registered. Every attempt will be made to balance the teams to help ensure a competitive tournament.

Important Note For Goaltenders: If you are registering as a goaltender and not playing with a full team, we will confirm your participation once we determine that there is a roster spot available for you.

All games will be played at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers.
